The School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics offers a unique learning opportunity in the form of the Intensive Foreign Language Instruction Program (IFLIP).
IFLIP provides language instruction Monday-Friday in the summer (two hours a day for a three-week period) and in the winter (three hours a day for a two-week period). Classes are taught by advanced graduate students or faculty. Each class must have a minimum of 10 participants to be offered and is limited to a maximum of 20 participants to provide the most effective learning environment.
IFLIP classes are open to UIUC students, faculty, staff, retirees, and to the general public. Children under the age of 18 are not eligible to participate. Registration will be $75 for UIUC students, $100 for faculty, staff, and retirees, and $125 for the general public.
IFLIP focuses on conversational skills and the content is typically based on the needs of the students such as travel preparation, survival language skills, etc. There is minimal homework. Instructors may require students to purchase course packets, handouts, or textbooks. There is no attendance policy and no academic credit is given for IFLIP instruction.
