Masters of Education in Global Studies
There has now emerged for the first time in the evolution of humanity a world society of diverse and divided people who are inextricably interconnected and interdependent. Teachers need to better understand the changing economic, political, and cultural contexts within which education takes place and to engage global issues impacting us all. To meet the professional development needs of teachers, the College of Education at the University of Illinois is developing a Masters of Education (EdM) in Global Studies. The main aim of this new degree program is assisting K-12 instructors to incorporate global perspectives into existing curricula and pedagogies.
New courses for Global Studies degree
- Globalization and Education Policy
- Internationalization of Curriculum
- Identity and Culture in Transnational Contexts
- Issues of Organizational Change
- Technology, Globalization, and Education
- Teaching and Learning in Cross-Cultural Contexts
The program also provides opportunities for school-based projects, as well as study tours and conference options. To ensure diversity and flexibility in learning, the program is developed in a modular form centered on theoretical issues, content knowledge, and practical examples drawn from the best practices used by K-12 institutions.
