Prisms of Globalization

Prisms of Globalization seminars present contending conceptual views of globalization from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, and are free and open to the public. Transnational Seminars Series

The Transnational Seminar Series links University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign faculty in the social/policy sciences and humanities with counterparts around the world through paper workshops and discussion. The lectures are free and open to the public. Several lectures are presented per semester, see current schedule for more information or view Transnational Seminar Archives for past resources.

2006

2006 Joint Area Centers Symposium: Criminal Trafficking and Slavery: The Dark Side of Global and Regional Migration

JACS 2006 offers streaming videos, Power Point presentations and electronic versions of papers presented at the conference.

Second International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry: Ethics, Politics and Human Subject Research

This conference looked at new forms of inquiry that can advance the goals of social justice and progressive politics at an international level. The Conference Paper Archive includes citations and electronic copies of papers presented.

4th Annual Global Studies Forum: Global Interconnections

This forum is the annual conference of the Illinois International High School Initiative (IHS). IHS provides curricular support and professional development opportunities for secondary educators.

Challenges to U.S. Global and Regional Hegemony and Implications for the Post-Cold War International System

This conference discussed the rise of a global society and underlined the increasing interdependence of peoples and states within a globalizing world. A listing of papers presented are available to view.


2005

Global Studies in Higher Education: A Conference on Research, Curricular, & Collaborative Opportunities

This conference included a Satellite Conference for Librarians and Information Specialists.

2005 International Summer Institute: The Life of Kids Around the World

This was a five-day intensive institute providing teachers with ideas on how to integrate global and regional issues into curriculum through lens of children around the world. Resources include electronic lists of carefully selected children's and young adult literature discussing different cultures around the world.

First International Congress for Qualitative Inquiry: Qualitative Inquiry in a Time of Global Uncertainty

This conference discussed the issues of governments across the globe attempting to regulate interpretive inquiry, effecting freedom of speech in academia.
